Therapy with me:
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I believe our earlier life experiences persist in affecting our ways of behaving, relating and feeling in the present, and in ways which are sometimes unconscious. Yet whilst our pasts may be a key to understanding ourselves better, good counselling should help us make changes that allow us to live more fully in the here and now and influence our futures.
Our relationships and attachments are extremely influential, and I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to productive counselling work. I will offer an initial assessment session to get to know you, understand your background and any specific areas you wish to address. Importantly this will also give you an idea of what counselling with me will be like. I believe that therapy can be a useful, rewarding and enjoyable process for those who want it, but it can also feel difficult and is therefore a commitment. So this session will also give space to discuss envisaged length of therapy (I offer short, mid and long term) as well as cost and frequency of sessions.
I am open, friendly and supportive of different cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
